More than 300 ships have been built on the North and South Rivers including the Bark Columbia which carried the crew that discovered the who discovered the Columbia River. Hundreds of fishing schooners and dories were built on the North Shore, and Clipper ships were built by Shiverick in East Dennis. In more recent history, Massachusetts boatbuilders have developed the Beetle Cat, Mackenzie Cuttyhunk bass boats, the Eldridge Mcginnis design Brownell and Fortier bass boats, Cape Dory, Boston Whaler, Crosby Wianno seniors, Gurnet Point boats and many others.
